The best news was that we managed to stay in for the whole 16 overs, which was a great achievement in our first match. Clearly, I need to learn how to play defensively, and we need to shout at each other to try and go for those extra runs when they are on. The non batsman always should be committing to a run. These are all things we can work on.
BOWLING
Stocksfield reached our target by the end of the 9th over. After that we continued playing until the 16th but scores were not taken. Unfortunately this means I can’t analyse our bowling too much because the scoring was stopped in the book after these 9 overs.
In those 9 overs we bowled 9 wides. However the positives were that both Cheryl and Jen bowled a maiden over each (this means that no runs were scored off their bowling, nor did they get any extras) against them. Also after the scoring stopped, Jen did get a wicket, and if I am correct I don’t think that any of the Stocksfield ladies hit a ‘4’. Considering the pressure was off Stocksfield and they have been playing for a good few years, then it looks like our bowling was quite effective so well done to Jen, Cheryl, Chloe, Sandra and Karen.
FIELDING
Wasn’t too bad at all particularly the backing up (Tishy & Karin). We need to be a bit more nimble in the chase of the ball and understand each others throwing abilities as to how best to get the ball back into wicket or bowler. Cheryl has a very strong throw, but others need to be supported in getting the ball back. The training we did in the sessions about scooping up the ball and turning and throwing quickly are all things we can continue working on.
THANKS TO ALL SUPPORTERS (and to Sarah for being ready as 9th player) THE ENCOURAGEMENT WAS REALLY APPRECIATED.
Stocksfield provided nice catering after the match. This means that we will also need to put refreshment on for the matches so we need to decide how best to organise this.
Sandra will confirm if we can train next week at Corbridge (I think it was on Wednesday). If subs can be paid into Sandra – it will be £30 and cheques payable to Corbridge Cricket Club.
Well done players and supporters all!
