HEXHAM LEAZES WON by either 61 or 68 runs
Hexham elected to bat first. They had some strong batters showing us how it should be done, and their top scorer retired at 51. They scored either 134 or 141 for 2 wickets (the book doesn’t quite tally against their batting & our bowling stats ... I’ll speak to Aaron to clarify, sorry I’m new to reading score books and he is new to scoring! So here is how he logged our bowling:-
From the 20 overs:
Sandra (5) : 41 runs against and a FABULOUS WICKET against a county cricket player
Jen (4): 22 runs against which was the most respectable average out of all the bowlers – well done.
Lisa (5): 32 runs against and bowled their captain out. FANTASTIC.
Chloe (5): 29 runs against . Again a very respectable average. Great stuff.
Karen (1): 10 runs against. Karen bravely stood in for Jen when she went off sick.
This includes the extras of 1 no ball, 14 wides & 3 byes.
STIRLING EFFORT BY ALL BOWLERS. Sandra, Lisa and Chloe did really well to bowl 5 overs each on a warm evening. A great feeling for Sandra & Lisa to get a wicket in the 5th & 7th over. Understandably Hexham’s run rate increased considerably from the 13th over onwards when they were hitting quite a lot of 4s as our bowlers started to tire.
FIELDING
The fielding has improved from the last game. There are a lot of areas we need to work on, which I’m sure Dave & Stephen can help us with. Lizzie made her debut as a fielder in the 12th over, and hopefully enjoyed this first experience of competitive cricket. Karin, Tishy & Karen were great in giving encouragement to the bowlers and general support on the field.
BATTING
Sandra bowled 12
Lisa bowled 17
Sally bowled 9
Jen caught and bowled 11
Tishy not out 2
Karen not out 1
Hexham gave away 21 extras (3 no balls, 10 wides, 7 byes & 1 leg bye).
TOTAL – 73 for 4 wickets
Unbelievably for the 2nd game we managed to stay in for the whole 20 overs and even better we only lost 4 wickets. This is an incredible improvement although a shame for Karin & Chloe who didn’t get an opportunity to step up to the crease. We also faced a fantastic bowler, Naomi, who we think plays for the county. Sandra & Lisa were terrific in their opening partnership and gave the rest of the team great confidence. Jen scored 2 lovely 4 runs and both myself and Lisa managed a 4 each as well. The most unfortunate moment of the night was when Sandra damaged her achillies tendon and needed a runner – well done again Lizzie for coming in and doing this job.
We will get 3 points from this match. A point for getting more than 50 runs! And a point for Lisa & Sandra’s wickets – so we are now off the mark in the league. What an achievement.
THANKS TO DAVE FOR UMPIRING (& ADVICE), GILLIAN FOR YOUR LOYAL SUPPORT & FAMILY MEMBERS WHO CAME ALONG. ALL IN ALL IT WAS A REALLY GOOD NIGHT AND HEXHAM LEAZES WERE VERY ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTIVE OPPOSTION.
