Corbridge Angels v Wylam

Wednesday 23 June – WYLAM WON BY 65 RUNS

At our first home match on a lovely sunny evening we won the toss and elected to field first.

BOWLING
Sandra (5)           38 runs                 1 wicket
Lisa (5)                  37 runs                 1 wicket
Chloe (5)              28 runs
Cheryl (5)            14 runs                 2 wickets

This includes the extras of 24 wides, 1 leg bye and 5 byes (oh I think their umpire was a little unforgiving at times)

Again, a great effort by all the bowlers.  Chloe was unfortunate not to be rewarded with a wicket with her on-line and pace bowling.  Cheryl had a storming game, and to only allow 14 runs past her bowling is a statistic that top players in the league would be very proud of.  Our 4 wickets gave us 2 bonus points (it is a point for every 2 wickets and not for every 1 which we had previously understood to be the rule!)

FIELDING
Without doubt our best effort so far this season, possibly helped by our 9th man in the field keeping us right with positioning.  Thank you Eddie Scott!   However, it was Lisa Scott who was on fire in the field, hurling a fast throw to me in wicket to get their number one batswoman out!  Not content with one stumping out, Lisa almost set up a second, but unfortunately Chloe didn’t quite get on the end of the throw.  Our incredibly positive fielding allowed us to stop quite a few balls running for 4 and also keeping some 1 runs at bay.  A great team effort by all with superb contributions from  Tishy, Lizzie, Sarah & Kerry (who came on to replace Cheryl for a few overs).  I’m sure Sarah & Kerry won’t mind me mentioning their comedy contributions (we are after all here to have fun first and foremost) with Kerry making friends with the grass at her first connection with the ball, and Sarah boldly stopping the ball running for 4 and then subsequently throwing the ball out over the boundary.  It was great fun and kept us all smiling!

BATTING
Sandra                  caught                  0
Tishy                      bowled                 8              (Tishy hit her first 4)
Lisa                         caught                  6
Sally                       lbw                         6
Cheryl                   run out                 17           (includes a 4)
Chloe                    not                         6
Sarah                     caught                  0
Lizzie                     bowled                 1

Wylam gave away 14 extras (12 wides, 2 no balls)

TOTAL – 58 FOR 7 wickets in 17.4 overs

It was Cheryl who had a terrific stand, and was particularly positive with her calling by constantly pushing for the runs.  We had a few unfortunate moments when we were caught (this is something that we will improve as we get more experience and learn a little more technical skill with our batting).  Well done to Sarah and Lizzie on their debuts – it is terrifying going up for a debut bat, and does only slightly get better every time we do it.  By achieving over 50 runs we earned another bonus point.  Giving us the grand total of 3 bonus points for the evening!

The normal thanks are sent to Dave for umpiring, Aaron for scoring and all friends, family and team mates who turned up.   It was great to put on our first ‘tea’ which was very well received and thanks Karin for your hard work in the kitchen making sure this looked appetising and enjoyable for all.

Stocksfield (A) v Corbridge Angels

Tuesday 15th June 2010

It was a great effort on Tuesday night against the rather impressive top of the league side, who had an abundance of Ladies County players:
STOCKSFIELD I WON BY 137 RUNS

Stocksfield elected to bat  first and our bowling stats are:-
From the 20 overs: (again there are some discrepancies in the score book as to the batting v bowling figures, so please bear with me as this may slightly change when Stocksfield publish their result)
Lisa (4):                    39 runs
Cheryl (5)                  45 runs
Jen (5):                     25 runs.
Chloe (5):                  44 runs.  For one wicket (our only point of the night)
Karen (1)                    8 runs
This includes the extras of 11 wides & 4 byes.

For the 5 ladies to bowl against such skilled batsmen was a great achievement.  Special mention to both Chloe for that incredible wicket and really working on her pace and Jen for achieving such a terrific average.  Well done the young guns!

FIELDING
Lisa was a marvel in the field not only trying her hardest to keep us all right, but covering so much ground.  She was replaced by Lizzie for the last 5 overs, which made Lizzie’s night.    Tishy was complemented by Chris C for her backing up (what an honour) and Karen C saved a 4  with her knee!  It is an aspect of the game that is understandably (given our average age, and lack of experience at cricket) not coming particularly easily for us.  Nevertheless we are trying and giving it our all, so it can only get better.

BATTING
Lisa                   bowled                     0
Jen                   bowled                      1
Sally                  caught                       1
Cheryl               caught                       5
Karin                 bowled                      6
Chloe                caught                       0
Tishy                 stumped                    0
Karen                not out                      2
Stocksfield gave away 10 extras (1 no ball, 8 wides, 1 bye)
TOTAL – 25 for 7 wickets
The highlight of the night was the Cheryl / Karin partnership.  The two stalwarts of the evening allowed our team to come away holding our heads up high by staying in for 17.5 overs, both ladies staying in bat for over 8 overs each against those fierce bowlers...  Also, we have an official specialist in the team – she is Karen (I’ve never been out yet) Chomse.  This is our third match, and no bowler is a match for our sticky wicket Chomse.  With 3 of us getting caught, we might need to start getting a bit of technical guidance as to how to keep that ball down, and Tishy will never be out of her crease again, but this is why we play these matches because we can only learn from all the experiences.
We will get 1 point for this match (more than we got against their 2nd team)
THANKS TO THE TIFFINS:  STEPHEN FOR UMPIRING & SANDRA & AARON FOR SCORING.  Our other specialist is Gillian, who is heading up the Angel support team (I hope it is that and not just the food Gillian likes?) And all the other loyal family supporters and Lizzie’s family for coming along to give encouragement.
